Grafbase

Introduction

Grafbase, a startup based in Stockholm, backed by the founders of GitHub and Vercel, hired me to design a UI/UX for a web app which makes it easy for developers to deploy and manage GraphQL APIs, ultimately deploy and manage all backend.

Design process

I worked closely with the CEO of Grafbase and developers at Grafbase. The CEO, who is also a developer, and, before Grafbase, was a CTO at another startup, was making Grafbase for developers, so he had a clear idea of what the product needs to provide to developers and he reviewed and approved all the designs. I designed Grafbase's website and web app from scratch, focusing on making it simple and easy for developers to deploy and manage GraphQL APIs, and creating a visual style and a design system which makes it easy to show both website and a web app in a light or dark theme, and allow developers to create their own look, to match their company's brand or preferences.

Final design

Mockups of Grafbase landing page and product, taking the user from understanding how the product works to deploying the first GraphQL API and tracking and managing all deployed GraphQL APIs with the rest of the team.

Results

Working closely with Grafbase CEO and developers, in 4 months, I designed the entire web app and website, and established a design system which makes it possible to see all parts of the app and website in light, dark and custom theme (developers can create themes and give users ability to create themes, e.g. set up a color scheme which matches their branding). It was expected to take 8 months. I also helped with the pitch deck. Developers built the web app and website, and Grafbase raised a round.
